Squid is imported into New Zealand from Thailand and China.

Thailand produces baby iilyx squid from product harvested in the Gulf of Siam. It is processed into whole baby squid, or squid tubes, with the heads and tentacles being used in some marinara mix.

China produces larger arrow squid tubes, very similar to those produced by New Zealand, from raw material harvested in New Zealand waters by joint venture vessels, and processed in Chinese factories.
